Yeah, I Did a Thing and Scored the Godzilla Minus One Deluxe Edition from Japan

I’ve haven’t been this obsessed with a movie since Blade Runner 2049, the original Star Wars trilogy before that and probably a bucket full of horror films in-between. Impatient me, I pre-ordered the Japanese Deluxe Edition of Godzilla Minus One as an early birthday present, since the U.S. and Japan share the same Blu Ray zoning.

Luckily for me, I saw the film three times in the theater, including Godzilla Minus One, Minus Color, which is loaded inside this gorgeous four-disc package with a monster (pun intended) wraparound case along with a separate steel case and came autographed by film director Takashi Yamazaki.

I already started watching a few minutes to get my fix before I finish over the weekend in full Japanese. Luckily, I know the story well, even if I may take a crash course in the language since there are no English subtitles until the North American release is finally here. We watched part of the incredible Shogun miniseries without subtitles and followed along just fine until Hulu swung them back in.

Worth it!!!

    • Yeah, dude, totally worth it. I hope they offer the U.S. the same package, though it was advertised with small gold Godzilla figurine that didn’t come. I’m more than happy with it, though, especially for the Yamazaki autograph.

    • I knew it wouldn’t go right to streaming because of the Toho and U.S. agreement, so I went 3 times, lol. I will still get an English subtitle version, but luckily, I know this film well and had no problem watching it in Japanese and it inspires me to try and learn the language. Writing kanji, well, different story, lol

    • It helped that I went to see Minus one three times in the theater including the Minus Color edition. That is included in this set. You can see my comment to James where my wife watched it in color with no subtitles and my giving just enough commentary from seeing it all those times. I was stunned she was willing to go full Japanese and she enjoyed it. Granted, she wouldn’t have gotten the nuances of the plot without me, and this is a very human story where Godzilla is in it about 10-15 minutes total, but when he shows up, it COUNTS. He is frightening in this movie and that drew my wife in, no subtitles.

    • Yeah, my prediction is it should hit streaming by late summer, early fall. What I know is that Toho Studios and the American Monsterverse have an agreement where neither shall run their own Godzilla based product at the same time of each other, including streaming and physical releases. GxK made a tremendous amount of money and is already on streaming and hitting physical in June, which will leave the door open soon thereafter for Toho to release Minus One to North America.

I will say that I am grateful for getting the Japanese release of Minus One because it’s a beautiful package and I got TJ to watch it in full Japanese last night with me giving her increments of the plot and deciphering the key dialogue so she could appreciate it. She is not a Godzilla fan whatsoever and I have driven her out of her mind with my love of the big guy, but she responded the best to the American 2014 Godzilla when I played it for her and last night for Minus One, even without understanding the dialogue. She said she was impressed and would watch this and 2014 again.

Get on it immediately when it hits here!
