Our closest to it is The Shape of Water, which was inspired by CFTBL and a wonderful in its own right. They keep talking about doing a Creature proper film, and since they are doing all these Universal reboot projects now, I wouldn’t rule this out.

I read The Creature from the Black Lagoon novel years ago. I think I got it from the library when I was in school. I was unprepared for just exactly how violent it was, with various graphic deaths up to an including at least one claw-swipe-induced disemboweling …
