I’ve been a comic book guy for most of my life, Marvel Team-Up # 72 from 1978 featuring Spiderman and Iron Man being my first contact comic. My folks got it to occupy me for a 3 hour trip to Ocean City back then and boy, did it ever. I read that sucker five times down, three more on the way home. HOOKED forever. I worked comic book retail for a short time in the early 1990s with my buddy, Brad Owings, funny enough, my boss at the time. Here I present my Top 5 all-time favorite Marvel characters, a lifetime spent with these heroes. I will later present my top 5 from their Distinguished Competition.
One: Moon Knight
Two: Black Panther
Three: Spiderman
Four: Daredevil
Five: Storm

Ellis, Ennis, all those Vertigo masters. Yes, I’ve been laboring trying to pick five out of an “indie” press post, but it might have to be pared to Vertigo and Image, etc. Image is so huge and for my money, the best publisher right now. They everything for anyone and they’re fearless in what they let their creators present. I get more Image books than anyone right now, other the Godzilla comics, mostly by IDW, though and Marvel and DC are doing Godzilla books as well. Conan, I absolutely love and spent my early teens through my 20s reading the paperbacks, Savage Sword of Conan and the regular title through Marvel. Later Dark Horse. He’s now with Titan, as you probably know.
Now Red Sonja, that’s my girl for the sword and sorcery crowd. I have two boxes alone of her comics, lol. Marvel and Dynamite.

Wish I could take credit for it, but that is Marvel’s select phraseology by tokens of respect to DC. They each borrow liberally from one another anyway. I love that term, as well. Very classy.

As everyone who’s spent any time on my blog knows, my favorite Marvel character is Dazzler. I cannot adequately explain why. Following Dazzler we have The Black Knight (Dane Whitman version), Madison Jeffries of Alpha Flight, and then probably Cloak & Dagger. I would just say Dagger, but you kind of have to take them as a pair, you know?

Those are cool choices! Dazzler’s always a goodie and I loved Cloak and Dagger as well. They were something new for the times and not just interracial, but they made sense in their guises and in the personal lives. Dagger was slammin’ that’s for sure, but Cloak was the enforcer and the conscience, so you’re correct. Black Knight always made me smile in his cameos. Alpha Flight was cool, though I enjoyed them best teamed up with Carol Danvers in more modern Captain Marvel tales.
